Edakkal Caves

Edakkal caves are situated at a distance of approximately 25 kms from Kalpetta in the Wayanad district. These two natural caves are popular for stone age carvings and are believed to date back to pre-historic times.

The caves were discovered by Fred Fawcett in 1890. He was on his hunting trip to Wayanad when he accidentally came across these caves. These caves are believed to be once a habitat for Neolithic people.

To reach this place, you need to follow a trek which runs through Ambukutty Mala. It will take approximately 45 minutes to complete the trek. This place is worth a visit if you are planning a trip to Wayanad anytime soon.

Kuruva Island comprises of a cluster of islands over the middle of Kabini River in Wayanad. The island is home to a lot of different species of flora and fauna. The calming ambience of this place gives you a chance to take a peaceful stroll on this pristine island.

After you have purchased ticket from the reception, a raft would carry you to the island. A walk of around 2.5 kms inside the island will lead you to a beautiful lake. Make sure you reach this place early as the raft is not operated after mid-day on the one side.

These falls are also known as Sentinel Rock Waterfalls. It is a three-layered waterfall situated at Vellarimala in Wayanad. From Meppadi in Wayanad, it will take you a 20-minute drive to reach this beautiful place. These enchanting waterfalls are surrounded by thick forests, making it one of the best places to visit in Wayanad. You will have a walk for about a km from the entrance to reach the falls.

The route to Pakshipathalam Bird Sanctuary offers trekking opportunities for adventure enthusiasts. Trek difficulty ranges from mild to tough. Trekking time required is 8 -9 hours (includes both ways). You need to take permission from Divisional Forest Office before adventuring out on this trek.

It’s a wonderful trek along the Bramagiri Hills in the Western Ghats. The scenic beauty and wildlife you get to see makes for an enjoyable and amazing trekking experience.
