The Rose Garden Chandigarh is officially known as Zakir Hussain Rose Garden – the former president of India. The garden is located in Sector 16 and is spread over 30 acres of land. The park has several varieties of roses in well-tended beds, making it a popular tourist spot for nature lovers. There are also several nicely planted shrubberies and trees along with several other features that you might expect in a park like ponds, benches and refreshment kiosks.

The Rose Garden, Chandigarh was built in 1967 under the guidance of the then First Chief Commissioner, MS Randhawa. The park has more than 800 exquisite types of flowers and over 32,500 varieties of trees and medicinal plants. The natural beauty of this garden is accentuated by the presence of sloppy azure mountains in the backdrop. With its relaxing ambience and lush-green surroundings, Rose Garden is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Chandigarh.

The Rose Garden Chandigarh Experience
A trip to the Rose Garden is a fairly low-key affair. Even before you enter the park, you can smell the roses in the air. Outside the garden, you’ll find a lot of vendors selling food. However, the food doesn’t look hygienic and clean. The garden is also a great place to run or walk as there is a track around the garden. You can see locals coming to the park for morning and evening walks. Don’t miss the sound and light show that happens in the evening at 6 pm. Try not to visit the garden in summers since the best time to visit the Rose garden is between winter and spring. To see the flowers in full bloom, the best time to visit the Rose garden is in the last week of February or the first week of March. The Rose festival also happens around this time. The garden also has two beautiful fountains and lavatories for both male and female. The place also has a camel ride that can be enjoyed by paying a nominal price.

You can also cycle your way up to the garden and park your cycle in the plenty of parking stands available for cycles. The garden can be reached through its several entrances.

Rose Festival is a popular cultural event that is organized every year in the Rose Garden at the end of February and starting of March. During the festival, visitors from various part of the country come to this place to participate in this festival. During the festivals, there is an exhibition of the finest of roses and several other competitions, cultural events, and other festivities. During the festival, there are several stalls, decorations and upbeat music in the garden where people come and have a great time.
